Colossians 2:7 NIV - “rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
At the beginning of 2022, I went from earning the most money I had ever made in my career to being on disability for ten months because of COVID. During that time, my faith was tested over and over again.
For years, I’ve lived by the motto: “Things will be okay, no matter what.” But that season stretched that belief in ways I never expected. There were issues happening at the job I’d taken time off from, and each doctor visit seemed to lead to another referral. On top of that, I was in the process of becoming an ordained minister — and I made up my mind that I wasn’t going to let the enemy delay what God had already ordained.
I couldn’t see how everything would turn out, but I knew one thing: where my help came from. I just had to keep my faith.
You see, you must have deep roots in Christ, because deep roots produce grounded faith — but shallow roots lead to fragile faith.
To be rooted means to remain connected, nourished, and anchored in Christ, no matter what life looks like. We all go through storms, but if your faith isn’t planted deeply in God’s Word, life’s winds will easily shake you.
Depth determines stability.
Storms reveal roots.
The deeper your roots go in Christ, the stronger and more unshakable your faith becomes.
Always remember this: Exposed roots are vulnerable — they dry out faster, get pulled up easier, and have less room to grow. Stay rooted. Stay grounded. Stay connected to the Source of life.
Reflection: Are your roots grounded in the Word or in the world’s approval?
Action Step: Take time today to ask God how you can strengthen your spiritual roots. Identify any areas of your life that have been relying on surface-level faith, and ask Him to deepen your trust, nourish your spirit, and make your faith unshakable.
Prayer: Lord, deepen my roots in You until nothing can uproot my faith.
Help me to stay so connected to You that my roots flourish and remain strong through every storm. Remove any dead or weak roots that hinder my growth, and build me up in Your truth. Make my faith unshakable. In Jesus' name, Amen.
