Suit Up. Pray Up. Show Up.

Updated: Dec 11, 2025

Ephesians 6:18 NIV - And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

For years, I treated prayer like a task on my spiritual checklist. I prayed because I knew I was supposed to, not because I fully understood what prayer actually is. But as God began to draw me deeper, I learned that prayer is not a performance — it’s a relationship.

I will never forget the moment my prayer life changed forever.

For many, speaking in tongues is a controversial topic, often misunderstood and rarely taught with clarity. For years, I feared it—not because it was wrong, but because I didn’t understand it. Then one day, while attending evangelism training, the instructor asked everyone to pray in their heavenly language. Everyone stood…except me and one other young woman.

I felt frozen. I had only spoken in tongues once, when I was 14, and I had buried that moment so deep that I convinced myself it didn't matter. I sat there quietly, unsure, uncomfortable, and confused.

But when I left that class, something in me felt unsettled—almost like something spiritual had been awakened but I couldn't name it. Days later, the Holy Spirit revealed that my gifts were being stirred. What God placed inside me had been laying dormant for almost 20 years because I was too focused on sounding like everyone else instead of simply yielding to Him.

From that moment on, everything changed.

Over the last several years prayer has become more than something I do, it’s become a need. There are days I can feel that I need to spend more time in prayer so I do. There are days that God places a burden on my heart for His people. Then there are days that my spirit just needs to cry out to God. And there are times when I don’t even know what to pray—yet my heavenly language intercedes for me.

Prayer is so much more than presenting God with a list of needs.

Prayer is worship.

Prayer is communion.

Prayer is relationship.

Prayer is the ongoing conversation between a Father and His child. It’s where burdens are lifted, identity is restored, and intimacy is built. It’s where God reveals His heart — not just His answers. No matter whether you pray in your earthly language or a heavenly language, Holy Spirit should always be your lead.

Some of the most powerful moments in my life didn’t happen in a church or at an altar… they happened alone in my car, driving long distances, talking to God like I would a trusted friend. No fancy setup. No perfect phrasing. Just raw honesty and communion with my Father.

That’s when I discovered this truth: Prayer isn’t about sounding holy — it’s about being real.

True prayer warriors aren’t formed on platforms; they’re forged in the quiet moments where no one is watching. The secret place is where strategies are revealed, strength is renewed, and relationship is deepened.

Always remember this: God hears you before you speak, and He responds long before you understand. Prayer is your lifeline — not your last resort.

Reflection: Do you view prayer as a requirement or a relationship?

Action Step: Write down 3 intentional ways you can deepen your prayer life this week — not through routine, but through relationship.

Prayer: Lord, draw me into deeper intimacy with You. Teach me to pray from the heart, not from habit. Help me to seek You consistently, honestly, and relationally. Let my secret place be where strength rises and my faith grows. In Jesus' name, Amen.
