Matthew 6:6 NIV - "But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
When I was a young adult, I didn’t fully understand the importance of prayer. I prayed routinely, thanked God for the usual things, and went about my day. But when God called me to be an intercessor, I realized that would require a new level of commitment — not just in my prayer life, but in my relationship with Him.
At the time, I was living with my brother and his family, so I didn’t have a quiet space just for myself. But what I did have was a car — and long drives to and from work and school. Each commute was about an hour or more, and that became my sacred time. My car became my secret place.
I would talk to God, honor Him, pray for others, and simply sit in His presence. There were days I prayed and cried the entire drive to work. It was during those moments that God began to place specific burdens on my heart — for the homeless, the broken, the incarcerated, and those who felt forgotten.
Even now, while I have a prayer closet, there’s still nothing like a late-night drive on an empty highway, just me and my Heavenly Father.
True prayer warriors are molded in private.
The secret place is where strategies are downloaded, strength is renewed, and revival begins. It’s where your calling takes shape and your faith matures. It’s where the enemy’s strategies are defeated. It’s were battles are fought and chains are broken. The secret place is where warriors are forged.
Always remember this: Prayer unlocks doors no man can close.
Reflection: Do you have a secret place? And if so, how consistent are you in meeting God there?
Action Step: Take time today to write down three ways you can strengthen your prayer life. Be intentional — include practical steps on how you plan to make prayer a daily priority and deepen your time in God’s presence.
Prayer: Lord, draw me deeper until prayer becomes my first response, not my last resort.
Help me to seek You in the quiet places and rely on Your Spirit more than my own strength.
Teach me to intercede with compassion and boldness. Make me a faithful disciple and a true prayer warrior. In Jesus' name, Amen.
