Acts 1:8 NIV - "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
This last season has stretched me — is still stretching me.
On the outside, it looked like I was being a faithful servant. Over the past two years, I was ordained as an elder and then as a chaplain. I served in nursing homes and prisons — bringing God’s love, hope, and comfort to people in hard places.
But the truth is… while I was serving, I wasn’t fully surrendering.
I knew God was calling me to more, but I chose what was comfortable — and comfort quickly became disobedience. I was afraid of being seen, of being heard, of being imperfect. I allowed fear to silence my gifts and keep me from the very people God was sending me to reach.
Then I reached a moment where I knew there was no more running. I told God: “I’ll go wherever You send me… even if I go scared.” Maybe discomfort is the new normal for disciples.
Being a faithful disciple means going beyond comfort.
It’s sacrifice.
It’s obedience.
It’s trust.
It’s choosing to love God and His people more than you love your own comfort.
Growth is birthed in discomfort. The Kingdom advances through those who dare to move when everything in them wants to stay still.
“Go” might mean across the world — or simply across the street —but it will always require faith. When you go with the Word, God’s presence goes with you. When God says “Go,” it won’t always make sense. You may feel unequipped or unworthy. You may even ask, “Why me?” But God’s calling is not based on confidence — it is based on His Spirit.
We are not called to witness in our own power. Acts 1:8 reminds us that the Holy Spirit empowers the assignment. What you can’t see or feel — God already placed in you. His power activates when you step out.
Don’t let comfort keep you from your calling.
Don’t let fear keep you from your purpose.
Always remember this: Wherever He sends you… you were born for this.
Reflection: What step of obedience feels uncomfortable but necessary in this season?
Action Step: Identify where discomfort has held you back. Is God calling you to teach? Pray publicly? Lead? Start the ministry He placed in your heart? Write it down, surrender it to God, and ask the Holy Spirit to be your boldness and strength.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, empower me to move beyond my comfort zone and carry Your name well. Give me courage where fear tries to silence me. Equip me to step into purpose with boldness and faith. Let Your fire ignite in me and be stronger than my fears. Make me a faithful witness wherever You send me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
