Romans 8:28 NIV - "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose."
Ever since I was a teenager, this verse has been a foundational part of my life. My family would close out morning prayer with this scripture every single day. Nearly 30 years later, my parents still pray it faithfully — and they raised each of us to believe and live by it.
Even as a child, I was taught that my life had a purpose bigger than myself — I just didn’t fully understand what that meant. Sometimes it’s hard to believe we have a purpose when life feels like it’s falling apart. That’s when faith has to become more than a word — it has to be our foundation. We must stand firm in God’s promises, trusting that even when we can’t see the plan, He’s still working all things together for good.
Every person on this earth was created on purpose and for purpose. We are purposefully purposed. I’ve seen some of my most painful seasons turn into something beautiful once the storm passed — but that required trust. Even when I didn’t understand what God was doing, I learned to rest in the truth that He had a plan.
Being a disciple means being surrendered. It’s not just about talking to others about Christ — it’s about walking in obedience, even when it’s uncomfortable. When Jesus called the disciples, He simply said, “Follow Me.” Each one had unique gifts and assignments that would advance the Kingdom of God. The same is true for us today.
Pursuing purpose isn’t always easy, and it won’t always look perfect. But when we choose obedience over understanding, faith over fear, and surrender over control — God aligns everything for our good and His glory.
Always remember this: All things are working together because of the purpose God has placed on your life.
Reflection: Are there areas in your life where you’ve leaned on your own understanding instead of trusting God? How has this affected your calling?
Action Step: Revisit moments when you questioned God’s timing or direction. Write down one or two ways He has proven His faithfulness through those situations. If you’re still waiting on clarity in a certain area, submit it to Him today and ask for divine direction.
Prayer: Lord, help me in my unbelief — especially in the moments when I feel like giving up instead of pursuing the call You’ve placed on my life. Strengthen my trust in You, even when I don’t see the full picture. Teach me to rest in Your promise that all things are working together for my good and Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
